nition, and some clothes." D.J. glanced around, frowning at all the people milling around on the sidewalk. She'd never noticed how crowded her neighborhood was until she'd spent a little time in the peace of McCall's. "You'd better come up. I don't like the idea of you staying down here alone."
He shrugged and followed her into the building. D.J. remained on the alert all the way to her apartment. Whoever was stalking McCall must know by now that she had stayed the night with him and could easily have staked out her apartment. But she saw no one in the hall. When she opened her front door Josie stood waiting just inside.
D.J. stopped short. McCall bumped into her back.
"Am I supposed to wait outside?" he asked dryly.
"Ah, no. Come in." D.J. cast a warning glance at Josie and the angel grinned. "I'll be right out." She motioned for Josie to follow her and walked into the bedroom. The angel, and McCall, followed. "No, stay here," she said to McCall.
"You nodded for me to come with you." He frowned. "Didn't you?"
"Not you. I mean, no. Just go in the living room, and I'll be out in a second."
D.J. turned away and shut her bedroom door in his face. She leaned back against the wood and let out a long breath. Josie appeared in front of her.
"You've had quite a morning, haven't you, dear?"
D.J. scowled and marched into the bathroom. Josie followed, and she shut the door behind them, then turned on the water full force before speaking to her angel.
